The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Phase 7 Development
An Electronic Document Management System (EDMS) is implemented for HK Polytechnic University Phase 7 development (Hsin Chong Construction, Dennis Lau & Ng Chun Man Architect & Engineers Ltd, Maunsell Structural Consultants Ltd, Parsons Brinckerhoff (Asia) Ltd, WT Partnership (HK) Limited and the HK Polytechnic University Campus Development Group). This solution is based on Wincas award winning solution eProjectDM, the EDMS solution specifically tailored for the Architect/Construction industry. eProjectDM is employed in order to help facilitate speedy information retrieval in this project. Users can share project knowledge rapidly, efficiently and effectively by using this system. It facilitates the retrieval of project correspondence, site photos, drawings, and the capability to track actions and issues regarding these projects. eProjectDM is web-accessible and therefore users can view the documents via internet with web browser such as Internet Explorer. Server is hosted in datacentre and therefore high bandwidth to the server and backup functions are provided.
eProjectDM supports all kinds of digital formats including Fax output, images, Microsoft Word Documents, AutoCAD and Microstation. eProjectDM supports OCR functionalities by using CaptureEasy. CaptureEasy is an imaging software that works with and a high-speed color scanner and they are both installed into a scanning workstation. This workstation supports “drag and drop” OCR, full text OCR and batch scanning that enable fast indexing for search documents in future. For this project, 6 CaptureEasy scanning workstations are installed in 6 different offices. The scanned image can be OCR in English, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese. They are structurally stored in logical components (cabinets, drawers, folders). The system performs automatic routing of incoming and outgoing correspondence as well. A Universal viewer is included to allow users to view more then 200 file formats including AutoCAD and Microstation. Wincas Tech is experienced in implementing such project, especially for Government tenders and construction related organization. The scope of this project involves the provision of hardware and software, planning, design, implementation of the EDMS system. Wincas Tech performs in-class user training and skills transfer after the completion of installation.
